Career and Technical Education (CTE) Graduation Requirements

To graduate with a High School Diploma in the Seminole County Public Schools, students must meet the following requirements related to Electives outside of the Academic Core:

All CTE courses can contribute to the General Electives requirement.

Some CTE courses can fulfill to the 1.0 Performing/Fine Arts requirement.

Some CTE courses can be used to meet Math or Science requirements.

 

  • Cosmetology
        The Cosmetology program includes instruction in care for hair, skin and nails. Students in this program will give them the foundation to pursue careers in hair styling, manicures, pedicures, make-up and other related fields. Students will he exposed to experts and practitioners in the cosmetology field and will develop an understanding of what their next steps must he to pursue a professional career in Cosmetology.

  • Students will learn to electronically create and publish business cards, newsletters, posters, fliers, calendars, and other print products using the Adobe CC Suite. They will learn to manipulate images and to create vector art as it applies to print products. The course develops industry-standard skills required for careers in digital publishing. Students will use Adobe digital publishing software that includes Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator. The students have the opportunity to design and create products for Lake Brantley High School through Patriot Publishing assignments that include the planner design, graduation program, and other school related products. Students will learn how to work with clients and commercial printing companies. The purpose of the course is to prepare students for employment in the digital design industry which includes careers such as graphic designer, digital artist, and multimedia designer. The course is project based and students will leave the digital design program with a digital design portfolio and career ready skills.

  • Early Childhood education is a multi-level program in which students will learn about a child’s growth and development in addition to learning about career opportunities in childcare. These students will participate in developmentally appropriate activities, textbook instruction, hands-on learning, internships and job shadowing. In addition, as part of this ECE level 1 program, students receive training from the Department of Children and Families. Successful completion of the whole program will give students the opportunity to he “certified” to work in a child care facility; receive up to 6 college credits in Early Childhood Education; ServSafe certification for proper food handling; and finally be eligible to compile the information needed to earn their Child Development Accreditation.

  • Television Production Technology is a program that builds upon itself through each of its courses. Students will begin by learning basic skills and techniques required to shoot and edit video. They will also learn the basic practices required to operate equipment in a television studio. As students progress through the different levels of the TV Production Technology program, they will focus on and refine the basic skills and learn additional skills that will expand and improve the quality of their video productions. Students will have the opportunity to earn industry certification in Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop and After Effects in levels 2 and 3. Also, as students move up through the levels, they will take on more responsibilities associated with producing, writing, shooting and recording a daily news broadcast as part of the morning announcement service to the school.

  • This course is designed to develop competencies in the area of hydrology, safety skills and procedures, geological principles of water resources, management of wetlands, storm water systems, environmental water resources, equipment and facility maintenance, scientific and research concepts; princes of leadership; and employability, and human relation skills. Laboratory-Based activities are an integral part of this course. These include the safe use and application of appropriate technology, scientific testing, and observation equipment
